DREAM ON
I hate listening to other people's dreams because for the most part they are so convoluted and nonsensical that they don't amount to much more than the time it took to explain. So not to worry, I won't go into any details... But I will say that this past week or so I've been having nightmares...intense enough to wake me up to realize my dog must think I'm crazy and I'm covered in sweat. Not sure what's prompting 'em but it'd kinda be nice if they'd stop.

OH ITS FRIGHTFUL OUTSIDE
So this morning on my way to work, I only got stuck 3 times. Once on the way out of my garage in a three or so foot snow bank. Once on a giant ass hill (and to prove I'm not completely retarded and incompetent when it comes to driving, two other cars were stuck on the hill as well). And once on my way into the parking lot...which after all was said and done, I couldn't get into...so my car is grocery shopping right now at a nearby supermarket.
Yesterday, I was lucky enough to have the day off. So aside from a walk to the coffee shop and letting the dog run about in an abandoned lot...I stayed inside. Which was a nice change of pace. I turned my place into a coffee shop...a coffee shop minus the hippies. I drank hot tea and coffee all day long by a looping fire on the tv, had a mix of The Evens, Dresdon Dolls and other low toned music playing on the ol' iPod...and I read...read a lot. I read a 300+ page book cover to cover in a single day...a first for me (not literacy, but my attention span)...I'm proud of myself. I was reading David Sedaris' When You Are Engulfed in Flames...which yeah, I'd recommend it.
All in all...if you're in the STL area and don't have to leave the house today, I wouldn't.

LUUVEL?
Despite forewarning of the Louisville nightlife...we checked it out...you don't need to. Quite a lame city, though a good time was had by all. We spent a lot....a lot of time at one of the local strip clubs. Not out of sheer pervertedness, though yeah, that had something to do with it...but mostly because it was the only place with (1) people, (b) music playing and (3) naked girls. We didn't make it to the bat factory, but here was karate in the pool. Hot Browns are delicious, but not a good morning after meal. Girls really like Elvis glasses. Cops apparently won't arrest you in White Castle if you sneak up to grab them from behind and shake them. Oh yeah, I pooped twice in the strip club restroom...which actually isn't a terrible place to deuce. The bathroom attendant's stash-o-smell-goods masks things quite nicely.
Weekend quotes...
- "I peed on my feet because I was trying to watch The Simpsons in the mirror."
- "I need to get drunk because I feel like shit."
- "Give my brother one of them dirt busters."

HUDSON RIVER PLANE CRASH

US AIRWAYS plane crashed into the Hudson River in NYC today after a bird flew into the engine. Luckily, everyone survived after what’s been described as a “masterful landing” in the frigid waters. Of course, they managed to pull the surviving “dude” out of the crowd for the commentary:
OH...
I think I forgot to tell you...its Dance Party Friday...so here's a funky fresh mp3 from Michna [SWISS GLIDE]...right click to download...
MY OWN PERSONAL HELL

So since I've been a bit under the weather, I was being good last night and stayed in to charge up for the weekend. And look...I was productive...Though I didn't do any laundry, I did finished this painting last night...My Own Personal Hell. Roughly 24" x 24"... acrylic and sharpie on canvas. Good things happen when you don't have cable...
TOMORROW
Gather the kids and pack your swimsuit...we're going on a no expense paid trip to Louisville. Its sure to be filled with wonderment and magic. Meet strippers, locals with accents and drunks alike. The train leaves bright and early, so get a good nights rest and meet at my cozy confines for an 8:00 am departure...

GOOGLE EARTH

It was only a matter of time before you could use online spy tool [GOOGLE EARTH] for more than trying to catch a look at your neighbor sunbathing topless. Now, using the satellite-viewing tool, users can zoom in on some of the art world’s most profound treasures in excruciating detail.
Partnering up with the vaunted [PRADO MUSEUM] in Madrid as a collaborative starting point, Google has photographed 14 of the institutions masterworks including Rubens’ “The Three Graces,” and Velazquez’s “Las Meninas,” in ultra high resolution revealing minute details rarely detected by viewers, all of which are now viewable online through the search engine.
Hieronymous Bosch’s legendary “Garden of Earthly Delights,” was photographed 1,600 times, and each photo was digitally stitched together to create flawless digital version of the masterwork. Said Clara Ribera, of Google Spain, “It’s a unique vision. In the museum we cannot get this close to a painting; if we did we’d need a three-metre-high ladder to get these views.” As a measure of definition, Google’s first collaboration of its kind with an art museum, the images being presented on Google Earth are 1,400 times clearer than anything the average 10-megapixel camera could render. Prado director Miguel Zagaza said, “There is no better way of paying tribute to the great masters than to universalise their art, and make it accessible to the greatest number of people. An image is no substitute for the direct experience of the work, but these actual-sized reproductions offer prodigious realism.” Google already has its sights set on a number of other high-profile artworks in museums worldwide and may begin expanding the collection if the pilot program is well received. To view these digital reproductions, download the Google Earth program, activate three-dimensional view and click on Prado Museum.
...and yes, your privacy is dwindling.
THE DEEP DARK WOODS
Oh, come on...everybody needs a little country every now and again. Both mp3s are delightful, but if you can only stand to have one more country song in your collection...make it Hang Me, Oh Hang Me...enjoy.

PANTONE STORE

The Pantone mark collaborates now with Gap in a dedicated shop which has just opened in New York. The stress is laid on the yellow Mimosa (14-0848), color of the year 2009 according to Pantone....F' I wish I was smarted and had money...and maybe not so much of a design turd.
FIREBIRD...REALLY?

Dumbest and most unnecessary name change...and perhaps the worst logo change. But still have decent shows...whatever. Bluebird is now the Firebird...
VOMITINA

Well...the vomiting and ass pee has subsided for the time being. I'd had a case of the 'nothing will stay in your body for more than 18 minutes' for about 28 hours...Yep...it was wicked awesome. Hopefully I'm as fine as I think I am now so my weekend isn't f'd. And I'm never eating spaghetti again.

GOOD JOB TO YE OL' BRITS

"Sick of being told that by not being a Christian you have chosen an afterlife of fire, brimstone and an endless loop of Kenny G tracks - British atheists have clubbed together and bought out the advertising space on 800 London buses and decorated the space with a message that reads: 'There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life'."
The campaign is in response to Christian ads that warn that by not believing in God, you subject yourself to extreme sadness and they strongly advise against it.
It's refreshing to see annoying advertising space being used for something other than the rampant promotion of consumerism...
and funny non the less.
BIKE FURNITURE DESIGN

We’ve all seen furniture made from recycled bike parts. Cool as it may be, most of it is '...eh' at best and would never actually make its way into your home (well not mine anyway). Andy Gregg of [BIKE FURNITURE DESIGN] takes repurposed bicycle furniture design up a notch. I don't necessarily like all of it, but there are some very cool chairs I wouldn't mind having...
ACTION/ABSTRACTION

This past weekend was the last chance to catch Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning, and American Art, 1940–1976 at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Of course I was one of the many procrastinators to view the show in its last few hours, despite it hanging for months previous. Very cool to see. I know a lot of people have issues and whatnot with Pollock...just drips blah blah...but until you see one in person...I don't think you can bitch about him. I'm not saying they are more than just drips, but the shear scale of his pieces are impressive...you can actually "walk into them..." well some, not all. I had seen a couple Pollock's at MOMA years back...much bigger than what was hanging here in STL, but the show here was still definitely worth the six bucks to get in.
"The exhibition starts with the titanic figures of Pollock and de Kooning and unfolds with an exploration of painting and sculpture by their peers, as well as younger generations of artists who responded to their example and to the critical frameworks created by Greenberg and Rosenberg. The exhibition is presented thematically rather than chronologically and is complemented by a rich selection of contextual materials."

LOUISVILLE OR BUST

The weekend of the 19th a group of fanciful people and myself will be headed up (probably over) to good ol' Kentucky...Louisville that is. Why? Because I've yet to throw up there or pee in a hotel bed there...that's why...and its my birthday. So consider this your invitation to join us, barring you won't be an annoyance for the weekend.
Last year was Nashville...highlights included one nameless member crying in a strip club, another nameless member and myself eating free meatballs in the strip club, a gun, ten 10 gallon hats (actually probably more), bluegrass, bbq, the oddest two friends (not of mine) ever seen together as a couple, late night swimming, a ride back to the hotel on a moped, mmm pancakes, superman...and much much more. So let's see what Louisville has to offer...other than a giant Louisville Slugger.
Come one, come all, or don't...whatever....

HELLO AGAIN
Been 87 years since I last posted as you can see. But plenty of fun has happened. It's a new year. More tattoos have graced my gorgeous body. I started sewing a quilt out of all my old tshirts. I've rode my bike. I've eaten tacos. I've laughed. I've laughed at people crying. I've watched a shit ton of DVDs...got the BBC Planet Earth Series (among others)...which is down right nifty. Oh, and here's a Jay Reatard mp3 [WHISPER]. Decided I'm going to Louisville in the near future to celebrate MLK Day. I've eaten at a lot of people's houses...apparently the holidays make people think I don't have any food...I even had an in home soup delivery. Did a couple of paintings...most likely show around Valentines Day in a couple of things...I'll keep you posted. Ron Asheton of the Stooges died today. So here's an mp3[DOWN ON THE STREET]. And another [1969]. And one more [TV EYE]. FBC ride this Saturday....my attendance has been less than perfect lately to say the least, so hopefully I can work that out...
